SS11 Fav show 1: Marc Jacobs

With August here and high street stores already selling their AW11 collections, for me as a Brit, I will bite the bullet and accept that summer is over, however that won't stop me from wearing the odd sun dress or flip flop at any hint of sunshine. So with that I wanted to round up the short-lived season with my 3 favourite shows of the Spring/Summer 11 Collections.

It’s a given that MJ would appear in my list of much loved spring/summer 11 shows, not just because he is my favorite designer, but because this season he created a really beautiful, wearable and highly covetable collection which managed to capture the zeitgeist of a past era so perfectly and also filled the head offices of the high street on a seventies frenzy.

With high cylinder gold varnished walls at the Lexington Armory in New York, Jacobs sent down his women in sumptuous fabrics in a array of colour’s in shades of coral, terracotta, peach and not forgetting the deep hues of aubergine and burgundy.  Thigh high slits, oriental obi belts and very rouge lips with dark eyes complimented his 1970’s themed show. Each look had its own little story to tell but collectively told one massive fashion tale which audiences fell in love with including me. It’d be fair to say that even though his pieces were detailed; glitterati heeled platforms and the like- just added to the allure of it all, which just reeked with simplicity at it’s best.

Even down to the beauty trends, Marc was on-point and I just love how he showcases his affection for the afro; back in SS10 for Louis Vuitton, perfectly groomed round afros were the look but fast forward a season and he’s let this mane loose to reveal the wild side of this trend whilst remaining reserved and ladylike through the various pieces.  Definitely a show-stopping collection that will carry you through a few summers too.
