Career/Portfolio Talk.

A recent visit from a woman at Career clinic gave us very good information on how to present our portfolio’s and CV’s.

 •Tough being your own critic.
•Portfolio is a projection of creative possibilities.
•Often misunderstood.
•Ask yourself where would I like to work ? Does my work reflect this? No –then change one or the other.
•Also aimed at position level.
•Employers interested in what you can do for them -demonstrate your ability to forecast their next winner, not the past winners of another co. you worked or your uni. Collection alone.  Although clearly some past pertinent work should be included.
•Basically look at your portfolio and the job you are applying for ;would you give you the job??
•May seem obvious but; label p’folio and each sheet. All pieces same way. No offence. Quality case. CV copy included. Approx. six core pieces(styled photo shoot, mag. layout, business plan, buying plan, promotional work, graphics, press kit, trend book)
•Really show off your ideas and full potential .
•The creative portfolio should constantly evolve and never stagnate.
•Approx 6 core trends over two or three seasons
•Start with strongest tantalise –use strong imagery, colours, concept.
•Capsule /spin offs of key pieces can really show off your ideas and full potential
•Use fabric, colour, clear drawings, photos.
•The creative portfolio should constantly evolve and never stagnate.
