Glastonbury Love 2011

This time round and like all the others I spent Glastonbury 2011 on my sofa with plenty cool drinks and the pleasure of looking at Reggie Yates(YUM!).
My appreciation for SKY+ fell even deeper as I was able to catch literally every performance from Paulo Nutini to Jimmy Cliff and my percentage has suffered this-only 4% left :-O, and it's more than obvious that in the last 5 years or so the ultimate festival is and has been inspiring fashion, especially where the high street is concerned. This time round I wanted take inspiration from some of my favourite performances-looking at their style and taking it back to the source; the designer collections SS11. So here we go....

This album for me is the album for the summer! Think of being sun-glazed, blue skies, tropical birds in the air and your draped Lanvin skirt blowing in the breeze aka Poolside Glamour!
Bold colours and chic prints are the way to go whilst rocking it out to 'Hawaiian Air, Pala, Helpless and Show me lights' just a few of the fab tunes; all of them are great-can't fault it none. As for their Glasto performance; I'm yet to watch it but I just know it's gonna be great!
To me, Two Door Cinema Club were one of those bands that I used to love singing along to their tunes through hearing them on various tv-shows(Made In Chelsea), and the like but never paying enough attention to find out who the artists where to upload them onto my itunes. But their performance changed all that. I love their effortless indie sound and style; the lead vocals are so delicate and full of character which I love. Their something different on the music scene, that is rare these days as everyone just tends to copy and reproduce what has already been done, so kudos to them. It’s all about separates so cropped or flared trousers, the jacket is a must have weather boxy or semi fitted and quirky prints like plaid of stripes are welcome

Beyonce brought the heat with vintage Destiny’s Child music from their ‘Writings on the wall album’ on Sunday night. As well as songs from her own back catalogue like ‘Crazy in love’, ‘Irreplaceable’ and my fav ‘Single Ladies’, she did an amazing cover of King’s Of Leon’s hit- ‘Sex on Fire’. Personally I think this new album of hers is rubbish and so I didn’t warm to any of her new songs except ‘1+1’. It took time for her to warm up but she gave a truly emotional performance with all the theatrics involved. I didn’t appreciate the panties as we don’t need to see all that God has blessed her with but I adored the jacket. My guess is it’s something Balmain made as they showed a lot of gold print and the same leaf print appeared at Guy Laroche in the form of maxi-dresses.
If there were ever awards for best Glastonbury Performance; it would have to be given to this girl right here. I loved loved, loved her set. The industry calls her the female Cee-lo Green and I can somewhat agree. She belted out crazy notes and made it look effortless and she didn’t even break a sweat- only a bit of her Afro quiff decided to boogie on out but otherwise she rocked the stage but looked gracefully doing it too. Her look’s always been monochrome even down to her shoes which are always brogues. What I liked most about this performance is that her and her band are one and this unity was obvious as they all got down to the beat and went wild with her. I urge you to check her music out! Viktor and Rolf to me were the obvious choice for looks that correlate to her look on and off stage. Crisp white shirts and cigarette trousers, you’ll be Le Smoking.

SS11 Trends; Asymmetric ; In Limbo

Upside down, Michael Kors you turnin’ me! If there was ever a time to be indecisive about which way your fabric should flow, then now is definitely it! A wealth of designers served up many a lopsided treats in the form of beautifully cut asymmetrical dresses, kimonos and skirts. Taking a modern approach to this ingenious technique of cutting, is something that has breathed life into the spring summer collections; it’s evident to see that the creative minds have been at work to create a ‘new modernism’. Slick and edgy with light references to tribalism produced snakeskin printed skirts and cut-out jackets at Altuzarra , whilst Balenciaga re-vamped the tank top with embellished and sheer bodices.
You’d be mistaken to think it was all hard-edged at the shows back in September, work-wear tailoring was given a soft touch with the new length for the shirt- dress shown at Viktor and Rolf as well as Akris.
Lanvin and Kors made the cut with long flowy pleated and draped dresses, and a classic one-shouldered gown ended this asymmetrical love affair at Chloe.
The use and non-use of colour too is the breaking point for this trend. A simple shirt can look incredibly chic both in it’s normal white but also looks great in an olive green.  The floor length pleats has had everyone going maxi-pleat crazy and Albert Elbaz of Lanvin is to blame for this craze. For easy updates to your wardrobe, invest in printed kimonos and go for dresses in bright hues.

Topshop AW11 Preview

Looks 1-4

Looks 5-8

Looks 9-12

Looks 13-16

Looks 17-20

With matte satin turquoise crops, leather jacket lapels, and nod's to the 90s's grunge revival;, Topshop has released a great preview for the oncoming AW11 season. A very balanced line of ultra glam and folklore chic as well as androgynous tailoring harking to the era that made grunge look cool- the 1990's a very big trend amongst the designer pack. Trims and finishes are quirkily adorned with leopard and fur and the odd splash of colour.  Personally I'll be wanting to rock the turquoise crops, alongside the mongolian fur leather jacket and play a game of peek-a-boo with the polka sheer-through top. Look no 18 reminds me of 'Lol' from the show and film 'This is England 86', in fact all the looks from 17-20 have alot of references to grunge/skinhead culture.

What will you be wanting to wear?

The Hub Magazine

Available in WHSMITH in Selfridges London and Waterstones Harrods.

I've got some exciting news to share- I've been featured for the second time in The Hub Magazine! My first piece was printed in their debut issue back in October.

The second issue entitled 'the Renaissance issue' has contributions from the likes of Anna Dello Russo, David Downtown and Zaha Hadid.

My articles have explored the various spring/summer trends that are set on making an impact on the pieces you purchase this season. Discussing the resurgence of the trend velvet back in AW10 and this season the grown-up appeal of lace and how designers have re-defined the white shirt.
Available in selected stores and galleries around London and worldwide. I urge you to purchase a copy- (not just because I feature) but because it truly is something different. Check their facebook and twitter page for updates and backstage info on all their shoots!

As a recovering shoe addict, I'm doing my best to not go crazy but I'm in a bit of a high heel predicament- which one of these lovelies should I get?

To all my lovely followers, please help me choose between Electric Blue or Fuchsia?

You stop my heart..

I'm having a major fashion affair with leopard print so you'll have to just excuse me whenever you see something leopard-print related in my posts. The latest addition to my collection is the tan leopard print version of the aw10 bag from ASOS.com.  This time round it was a gift so that makes it easier for my bank balance to swallow. I've named them the 'Babushka Collection' (a take on Gucci's cult folklore bags back in AW08). Some might see it as greed to have two of the same bag but, to me it's an investment; great for work (whenever I get a job), great for travel-fits all my necessities, plus the tan one's for spring/summer and the black one for autumn/winter! Fashion smiles all round :-)
